Given our scale and future potential for growth, the time has come for me to step up to the role of Group Chairman where I will lead the strategic direction of our business.
This move requires a new individual to take responsibility for day-to-day management of the Group. I’m therefore delighted to introduce you to Chris Hocking, who becomes Group Managing Director from 1st March reporting directly to me.
Chris started his professional life in the Royal Navy as a Marine Engineering Apprentice. He was commissioned as an Officer in 1990 and went on to serve in warships and the Royal Yacht Britannia. He left the Royal Navy in 2000 to pursue a career in finance where most latterly he headed up the Wealth Management division of Deutsche Bank in the UK. I’ve known Chris for several years and always admired his career.
After his deciding retiring was rather boring, I asked Chris to join us in January this year as Managing Director of our BP Rolls Maxus franchise. In this capacity, he’s been able to get to know the business well and meet many of you in the process. This has given me the confidence to ask him to take his next step.
For those of you getting excited, I’m not retiring, and can’t imagine I’d ever want to. This is as much about enhancing my already strong team with the best people so If I was to drop dead unexpectedly my young family are protected until they are old enough to decide whether to follow in my footsteps, as I did my fathers before me and join the “firm” - or go and do something completely different and follow their own hopes and dreams. I will continue to work closely with Chris daily, and you all, as we enter this new and exciting phase of growth at BP Rolls.
