Repairing vehicles since 1966 - trusted by the UK’s biggest brands
Date: 6th March 2019
This time last month the Ocado distribution centre in Andover, Hampshire was on fire. As fightfighters battled the initial blaze which broke out in their robotic warehouse, the company expected to lose part of the building, but nobody could have ever imagined the drama that was about to unfold as events took a turn for the worse over a three day period and they lost the whole building despite the best efforts of over 200 firefighters from across Hampshire, Wiltshire, Berkshire, Dorset, Sussex and Kent.
BP Rolls Group has worked closely with Ocado for some years now, providing fleet maintenance for their home delivery vehicles in addition to accident repairs and livery graphics. Ocado HR Manager, Kim Lund visited BP Rolls last week and updated us on their situation 4 weeks on from the start of the blaze.
“Many employees were devastated, especially those who had been there from the start of the amazing project and were so proud of what had been achieved. Despite the shock, disbelief and upset at the enormity of the situation we are actually doing OK! We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has support us over the past few weeks, Andovers community spirit has been overwhelming”
Kim Lund, HR Manager, Ocado
Despite the loss of the Andover distribution centre, Ocado is still delivering customer orders via their Weybridge ‘spoke’ site. All employees are being paid full pay for the foreseeable future and 150 employees are working at their site in Erith, Kent, by way of transport laid on by the company. A new ‘spoke’ building is currently being constructed in the yard of the existing Andover site due to be finished in April and they are planning to set up a temporary warehouse, which will hopefully be operational by the summer.
On Friday 1st March, Kim organised a Fundraising Quiz in aid of The Firefighters Charity and Rapid Relief Team who supported Ocado staff throughout the crisis last month, and along with over 25 businesses, BP Rolls were pleased to donate prizes in the form of vouchers for MOT, Car Servicing and a Citnow Video Healthcheck. As well as being a fantastic opportunity to bring the staff together, the evening brought in over £2000 for the charities.
