Repairing vehicles since 1966 - trusted by the UK’s biggest brands
Date: 4th December 2019
Tesco approached the team at BP Rolls Signs & Graphics, to supply livery graphics for two new home delivery vehicles for use in their 2019 Christmas television advert.
The advert tells the story of Tesco delivery driver Joel, who travels back in time throughout the past century after getting caught up in some festive lights. In the Back to the Future-inspired advert, which ties in with the supermarket’s 100th anniversary, we see Joel on his last shift before Christmas, driving through a snowy village. Joel soon ends up on a time travel where he embarks upon 100 years of #DeliveringChristmas in one magical night; delivering some festive Tesco drop-offs to the likes of Winston Churchill on Downing Street, game show host Jim Bowen on Bullseye, and partygoers at a rave. Loaded with a van full of ‘food from the future,’ before returning home to Christmas dinner with his family.
‘2019 marks 100 years of Tesco helping families up and down the country celebrate Christmas,’ said Alessandra Bellini. Tesco Chief Customer Officer. ‘With the help of a delivery van, a cast from across the decades and a little bit of magic, we’re telling that story.’
Ahead of the advert launch, an actual Tesco delivery van appeared on the roof of a cottage in Knutsford, a small town just outside of Manchester, with the surprising scene causing a bit of a stir with the locals. Early morning risers taking a stroll in Tatton Park stumbled upon the unusual scene. The Tesco van in question had been decorated with hundreds of multicoloured festive lights.
‘It’s unbelievable, I mean, it’s not everyday you see a van, let alone a Tesco van, on the roof of a house! ’ said Jewel, 29, a Knutsford resident. ‘I’ve never seen anything quite like this, especially around here. It feels like something out of a Christmas movie.’
BP Rolls Signs & Graphics, based in Andover, Hampshire, supplied the graphics for the Mercedes-Benz home delivery vehicles, which were brand new to the Tesco fleet. The panels were flood wrapped using Metamark vinyl in Tesco blue, before the 100 years anniversary cut-out decal was applied. After filing the advert, the special graphics were removed and the regular Tesco livery then applied in preparation for the vehicles to go into service at one of Tesco’s largest CFC’s.
Gareth Price Director of BP Rolls Signs & Graphics, was delighted to have been given the task:
“We have been working with Tesco for a number of years now, and have supplied livery graphics for some 2500 home delivery vehicles and 300 distribution vehicles, so we know the brand very well! However it was nice to have the opportunity to work on this special project, and to see it featured in a major television campaign”.
